The theme of November’s Tim Hortons Community Fun Night held on Saturday, November 18 was Crazy Construction. The Allan & Jean Millar Centre (AJMC) staff had a big pile of items set aside for children and parents to utilize in creating all kinds of interesting projects together. From empty water bottles to cardboard boxes and toilet paper towel rolls, the possibilities were endless.
Several children were working together to build a play area by duct taping a slew of boxes together creating a fun maze. All ages were on the mat pulling pieces out and examining ways to use the wide variety of things laid out for them.
With a theme like, Crazy Construction, there were also several stations set up with different sized blocks, and children were playing games such as Jenga and Dominoes. Add in the Tim Hortons Double Double inflatable obstacle course and delicious treats from them, too, and you have a pretty fantastic three-hour time frame to have a blast in.
Held regularly, the free event takes over the ATB Financial Fieldhouse at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre, and gives community members the chance to come in, have fun, and make new friends. Themes change regularly with things like Nerf Mania and Obstacle Course Insanity having been used in the last couple months.
“We do this once a month during the school year on a Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.,” explained Emma Harper, Recreation Co-ordinator for the Town of Whitecourt. “It’s for anyone who wants to come out, and it’s completely free. We do dance nights. Giant games are coming in January. We do sports nights and all kinds of different stuff. We also have snacks because Tim Hortons sponsors the events for us. Did a mention it’s free?”
